Following the recent launch of their inaugural fund, our partner sought to invest capital in residential real estate assets across the UK, with all assets to be internally managed. The Finance Director role was created to lead the finance function and play a pivotal role in establishing the company’s processes and procedures.

They required a candidate with a proven track record in a high-growth, entrepreneurial environment, as the role would involve close collaboration with the CEO and CIO in strategic decision-making.

This approach allowed him to identify all suitable candidates who had experience leading and scaling finance functions within the residential and commercial real estate sectors. Consultative approach: Once the appropriate candidates were identified and expressed interest in the role, NDAs were issued to maintain full confidentiality, as the fund had not yet been launched. Joseph then conducted in-depth discussions with each candidate, having gained a clear understanding of our partner’s requirements. Following these initial conversations, Joseph compiled a long list of 14 candidates, all of whom he met in person and interviewed based on the criteria established by our partner.

Diverse talent pool: Our partner emphasised the importance of a diverse candidate pool for this role, seeking a balanced mix of male and female professionals. Joseph successfully delivered on this request, presenting a range of candidates. To help prevent any unconscious bias, the CVs were presented to our partner without identifying details.

Results

  • Six candidates were shortlisted for the role, with four interviewed by our partner. Two advanced to a second round, after which an offer was made to the preferred candidate.

  • Our partner was highly impressed with the calibre of candidates presented, noting that any of the shortlisted individuals could have been hired due to the exceptionally high standard.

  • The entire search process, from project brief to offer, was completed within just 10 weeks.
