Job description

We are working exclusively on behalf of one of the most well-regarded residential property management companies based in Central London for a Head of Finance position. You will be working in collaboration with the Directors and Heads of department to continue their growth journey.

The company prides itself on providing an exceptional level of service to clients and have built up a reputation for retaining key clients whilst continuing to attract new and exciting developments in to their portfolio.

They are looking for a leader to manage, coach and grow the existing high-performing client accounting team. The role will be heavily involved in pitching for new business and attending client meetings and attending on-site clinics. The company views finance as a critical asset that will provide an essential role in their future ambitions.

The role will be varied and involve duties, much of which is not usually associated with an accounting position.

  • Provide accurate and timely reporting on the financial position of the portfolio, communicating regularly with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Oversee the preparation and delivery of quarterly financial reporting packs, ensuring consistency and quality is maintained
  • Manage accounts from trial balance, ensuring accuracy and completeness of financial data.
  • Work closely with the Property Management team and Accounts to review and approve budget packs, year-end audit packs, and other financial documentation.
  • Act as a financial point of escalation for lessee queries and work to resolve any finance-related issues that arise.
  • Handle VAT accounting and invoicing across mixed-use commercial and residential estates, ensuring strict compliance.
  • Collaborate with the mobilisation and new business teams to onboard new clients, develop site cashflows, prepare setup budgets, and ensure smooth handover to the Accounting Team.
  • Ensure continuous improvement of system processes and procedures, enhancing efficiency and accuracy.
  • Oversee external auditors and accountants, ensuring they fulfil their duties in line with KPIs.
  • Lead, mentor, and support the Accounts Team in delivering key financial KPIs, ensuring ongoing development and upskilling.
  • Promote a proactive and collaborative team environment, encouraging innovation and continuous improvement within the department.

For this role, qualifications and skills are essential, however the individual must be able to demonstrate they are able to lead, innovate and coach in their role to drive a high-performing team. They ideal candidate will have the following background:

  • Real Estate experience, specifically residential exposure is essential for this position.
  • You must have previous directly managed an accounts team.
  • If you are a qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent) this would be preferable but not essential.
  • Strong understanding of VAT accounting, lease structures, and financial reporting in a property management context.
  • Track record of working closely with senior internal and external stakeholders, including those outside of the finance team.
  • System and process improvement experience would be strongly preferred
